Weight Loss Motivation

weight loss motivationWe all start new things with the greatest of intention, but unless you can find that key thing to keep you going, we usually fall by the wayside and give up.

That’s when we need some sort of kick to keep us going, we need the motivation to keep on going.  Weight loss motivation can be gained from within us or from the outside of us.  If you can keep motivated for long enough, you eventually will form a habit, which will then make things easier and keep you going.

When losing weight or following a fitness program, it is sometimes easier to have help especially in the early days when the desire to do, starts to wane.

How can you find your weight loss motivation

Weight loss motivation can be found by focussing on the end result rather than the present situation is a great way to keep you going.  Pictures are a great thing to use, especially if you have pictures of when you were slimmer.  Place these pictures on your fridge or kitchen cupboard doors to remind you what you want to achieve.  If you do not possess any, then the next best thing is to use your mind to create an image of yourself, slimmer and focus on that.

Another way to help your weight loss motivation is to keep a record of your progress with photos.  Take a photo before you start and then another, say about four weeks later and so on, so that you can see your transformation.

Another idea is to build a support team around you, to help you get through the tough times, when you feel like giving up.  Your support team can consist of anyone: family, friends, meetings with like-minded people or even on-line forums.

Before starting to try and lose weight, decide how much you want to lose.  It has been found that those people that have a definite idea of how much they want to lose are more likely to succeed compared to those that just want to lose some weight.

Anyway back to your weight loss motivation, you have to focus on the end product, the slimmer and fitter you.  Focus on the end result and do not worry about the mechanics of losing weight, the middle period, and this will help you overcome all problems.  By looking to the future you will forget about the pain and problems encountered, you will not get caught up with the thoughts of “this is too hard, I’ll just give up, losing weight is not for me”.

By focussing and being motivated you should be able to have the strength to see your weight loss program through to the end.

Gill - I also think that it is important to have your whole family on board. THAT is great motivation, if you are all eating the same thing and working together. Thanks for the great article!
