There are certain foods that are good for your skin, that are anti-aging. The following skin foods are the best ones for keeping your skin looking and your body feeling young.
To maintain your energy throughout the day, it is better to eat say five small meals rather than a couple of large meals. Some of the meals will be just snacks and these can be just as good skin foods as your main meals. When most of you think of snacks you will think of the bad foods like biscuits and crisps but there are many snack foods that are good for your health.
Eating more frequently will help your body to have a steady supply of nutrients and energy during the whole day and could even help with speeding up your metabolic rate because if your body will feels starved then it will feel the need to store energy as fat.
Some skin foods you can add to your diet
Nuts and seeds can be looked on as one of the best snack foods available, as they are full of vitamins, fibre, minerals and good fats. Eating nuts and seeds have been found to help protect you from heart disease, cancer, high cholesterol and signs of aging. They can also be used for weight control as they help the stomach to feel full especially if accompanied with a glass of water. Seeds are an excellent way to control blood sugar levels between meals and can also be added to soups, salads and stir-fries. I especially like to eat a mix of either nuts or seeds because of the mixture of flavors.
Berries such as blueberries, cherries and strawberries are full of antioxidants. These are good skin foods because the skins of the berries contain bioflavonoids which are more powerful antioxidants than vitamin C, although vitamin C is useful for building new collagen in the skin. Collagen is needed to keep the skin’s elasticity as you get older.
The red pigment in cherries contains anthocyanins, which is also a potent antioxidant. These help protect you from cancer, arthritis and heart disease.
Apples are another fantastic snack food, they have been found to help keep your heart healthy and also for healthier lungs. Apples contain a rich source of pectin which helps decrease cholesterol levels in your body. Pectin has also been found to help prevent colon cancer, one of the main killers for adults over 60 years old.
Chocolate, although it is something that you would think is bad, in moderation chocolate does have anti ageing benefits. In particular dark chocolate and the antioxidants contained in it, they have benefits for your heart, protecting it from aging, damage and disease.
Apricots, another good skin food, have been found to be a great source of carotenoids, another antioxidant that helps avert heart disease, defends against cancer and lower bad cholesterol levels.
Above I have highlighted some great skin foods but there are many more fruits that are bursting with vitamins and nutrients that you can try as snacks throughout the day, but as always it is eating in moderation that will help you feeling younger.
Good health to you!
