You are now three months into the year and all those aspirations you had in January to do more exercise and lose weight have evaporated, you have gone back to your old ways. What can you do to get exercise motivation? Do you wait for something to happen to you to spur you into doing exercise, like the doctor telling you that you have to do something or else?
Each person is different, what will motivate you, will not motivate someone else. You have to search your soul to find what will get you going and to keep on going. For me it is the thought of fat lying around my hips and stomach, the “muffin top” idea, I did not like it and that has spurred me to take up exercising seriously. For someone else it could be the idea of feeling stronger, building muscle or losing weight.
So what can you do to find that exercise motivation?
You need to do something that you enjoy doing, not everyone enjoys going to the gym or even has the time to go. You could take up cycling and also as an added bonus you have a chance to enjoy the outdoors. If that does not excite you how about taking up walking, dancing, swimming or even roller blading.
If you want a structured fitness program, you could look around for a fitness program, there are many on the internet. The best one that I like is Fit Yummy Mummy, as it structured to only take about twenty minutes a day six days a week. I am the kind of person that gets bored if the exercise time is too long and also I have problems trying to dedicate too much time to exercising, so this program suits me fine.
Take a picture before you start, so that you can see the improvements, if you don’t it is really hard to see the improvements as they are so small day on day. Also the memory won’t remember what you looked like a couple months ago but a picture will never be fooled. As you see the changes in the body, the results will keep you going.
Setting goals could be another way to find your exercise motivation. Say you are exercising to lose weight, so you can set a goal to lose Xlbs by a specific date, or Xinches around the waist, whatever suits you. It is said that what you weigh does not matter so much but rather how many inches you measure. You have to remember that muscle weighs more than fat, so you might be disappointed if you find that you have not lost as much weight as you think you should have.
Have a friend to work with, someone who has the same ideas as you for exercising. This will help you keep on track as you can support each other and encourage each other to keep on going.
The benefits of exercise could be your motivator. There are many benefits including more energy, reducing the chance of osteoporosis, heart attacks and breast cancer. Increasing your strength and reducing stress.
Exercising to music can help to make you feel happy and make the exercise session not feel so long. It can help you feel more relaxed and you could maybe work out to the beat of the music.
Hopefully the exercise motivation ideas that have been discussed here will help you get back into exercising and a healthier life.
To you being healthy and fit!!
